Today I am here again. the only different is I am prepared. I am not hungry and I have warm clothes for going home.

I know it is important to study so I am in the library. Not at home, no one can distract me and there is no entertainment going on near me. Everyone is studying now, it is hard to not study here.

yes I know I will finish everything when the library closed.

The purpose of this lab is to help you understand what plagiarism is and to learn how to avoid this unethical behavior. The lab requires you to read the following scenarios and consider the questions for each.

Scenario 1: You are doing your research for your informative speech and find the perfect statement to begin the speech. When you give your speech, you use the quote but do not acknowledge the source. Is this plagiarism? Why or why not?

Scenario 2: You are researching your topic and find an author who articulates the four main points you want to make in your speech. When you give your speech, you change the order of the points and paraphrase or change the wording of the author’s statements. Is this plagiarism? Why or why not?

Scenario 3: You and your friend are enrolled in two different COMS 151 Public Speaking classes from different instructors. You decide to cut down on your workload by sharing your speech assignments. Your friend researches and writes the outline for the first speech and gives you a copy for your speech. You research and write the outline for the second and give your friend a copy for her/his. Is this plagiarism? Why or why not?

Scenario 4: While researching your speech in the library, you came across a set of statistics that undeniably supported your claims. You wrote down the information on a note card with other supporting evidence. A few days later, as you develop your speech, you realize you forgot to write down the source. You think you remember the title of the book but are not really sure. During the speech, you create a title as reference that is as close to the title as you can remember. Is this plagiarism? Why or why not?

Scenario 5: While surfing the net, you find three or four speeches on the topic you have selected. You download all them and cut and paste your speech together. During your speech, you refer to all the sources used. Is this plagiarism? Why or why not?

Now, write a two-page paper responding to the following questions.

for the first scenario, it is definetily plagiarism,do not acknowledge the source is kind of use other's word as yours. It is not good.

Second scenario,changing order but same context can be plagiarism too, however paraphrase or change the wording of the author’s statements is kind of rewrite, but you still need to mention who is the oranginal writer.

Scenario 3, it is plagiarism. Simply copy and use it as yours and do not mention why did the research and who write it. Even it is yoru friend and this person agree to do so. It is still unethinic.

Scenario 4, it really depends. You already give credit but you cannot find the organal source name. So it is not a real plagiarism.

Scenario 5, it is plagiarism, cut and paste is the first wrong step and do not mention the authors is the second wrong step.

according to A speaker's guide book " Plagiarism—the passing off of another person’s information as one’s own—is unethical. To plagiarize is to use other people’s ideas or words without acknowledging the source. Wholesale plagiarism occurs when you simply “cut-and-paste” material from sources into your speech and represent it as your own. Patchwrite plagiarism is copying material into your speech draft from a source and then changing or rearranging words and sentence structures here and there to make the material appear as if it were your own."(75)

 

how to avoid plagiarism, and when you are not sure,"The basic rule for avoiding plagiarism as a public speaker is straightforward: Any sources that require credit in written form should be acknowledged in oral form. These include direct quotations, paraphrased information, facts, statistics, and most other kinds of information that was gathered and reported by someone other than yourself. " (75)

It is easy to get into plagiarism, so please be careful to use other's work. Especially articles on internet, try to use tools to exam your paper. Like turnitin.com and other useful tools as well. Always remember give creidit to author when you use any of others' idea, put them in quotation or rewrite it and mention the organal source.

 

 

 

Jutta Says ,she is trying to not give me a F. She said there is no skills required at all. I need more time to read the CQ research and turn in work. Maybe she can give me D in the end. She even said for the outline I turned in, she gave me a C.

What is a wonderful kind heart teacher.

She is the most strict professor I have this semester.

I have six cold professors this semester.

English 155 no late, start class 10 minutes earlier. She start to talk important thing to class at8:50!! Class is 9am!

every week two CQ reasearch to read and it is like 50 pages and we need to post two journal entries on web CT.

paper need outline, rough draft in real format, if not she will not read it.

and even the rough one should be  polished by tutor. Final draft will be due and grade with a guide list. She will add outline and rough draft togeter. In her class, there are lots of grammar and she talks a

Math 140 no late and if miss reading online, take off points. Quizzes in half of classes and homework for every class.

Econ160 no late. quizzes every class and use clickers.

Accounting 220 no late. quizzes every wednesday, and homework every monday. on line weekly homework. 

Speech class no late and there are so many quizzes for each week. And there are so many labs and stuff to do.

Asian American Study is better and there is only a few work to do.

I wish I can get through.

 

she finally said something postive. She said my paper has potential,but definetlly need more work.

This is a tough class and this is a strict teacher.

She is from German, I heard that Germany cares about grammar even more than American does.

This is terrible news for lazy students. If student have problems with time management, then he or she probably failed in her class. This is not easy, and it is struggling experience.

Hahaha. I am in her class and I am still alive. Hopefully, I will pass.

Thank god to bring me into her tough class.

The reason why I was stressful is about this big business event-- Meet The Firm.

I was nervous about it. Things like how should I dress like, how should I get there, who is going with me, how should I talk to people, and how to write a resume.

Now everything worked out perfectly.

I got ride from Sonja and I was doing the volunteer for student checking in.

I wrote two resumes and get them fixed with the career center.

I realized that one of my dresses can be a business formal.

I did find a way to start conversation and just bring on.

The result is not bad although I do not have any experience of working and I am just a sophomore. There are still opportunities to get an internship. There are some small firms and big firms to show me what are they doing and what can I do for them. I learned a lot and I know when is the right time to apply a job, like students who finished accounting 351.

I think this is all I want to say about this event.

Well. At least I had been there. Meet the firms and give out resumes.

Hopefully, I got an internship this time but what I need to do is go to those companies’ website and write thank you notes to those people who gave me a business card.
